Why do you love playing as a Necromancer?
Hey,
Just thought I'd ask a general question towards the profession, for general conversation sake. You must all have opinions, thoughts and views of the necromancer.
Why do you love playing as a necromancer? Or, it could be that you don't like playing the necromancer, and so why don't you?
Fire away! =]

Back in the Diablo II days, I fell in love with the idea of raising minions and spamming curses. It let me operate more as field general than hack-n-slasher, while still having skills to deal potent direct damage, when necessary. Good fun.
When I got GW, necromancer was the natural fit, for the same reasons above. The ability to add a second profession further enhanced the experience. Better fun.
I think it's a profession that allows you to see the big picture...and dominate it.

This is the same reason that I chose the Necromancer. I knew that once I saw a necromancer in Guild Wars, it would be my first and favorite class. Necromancers are a pretty powerful profession. They have soul reaping to fuel near infinite energy for whatever purpose.

MM.....SS....SV....Grenths....
Being a necro offers so many GOOD options to play, and so many ways to be effective. Got a problem with your ele causing AoE scatter? Putrid explosion, Death Nova, etc brings the damage and degen to them. A boss with tons of hp and damage? SV/Grenth's Balance. Crowd control? MM with Jagged Bones, or Flesh Golem for your own tank on demand, or the beautiful SS nuker as the Jack-of-all-trades.
You can have so much fun playing a necro. That and the whole goth thing. I find my female necro more hot than eles. Ahhh, Marla Singer......

i love being able to do a ton of things, and effectively. nothing quite like shutting down people in PvP, killing things in PvE, and farming incredibly quickly with either SV or SS. and that's not even the tip of the iceberg.

I love necromancers for being the most resilient and versatile spellcasters in the game.
Necromancers can do anything. All a necromancer can't do very well is tank, and tank'n'spank isn't the only playing style (or the most fun playing style) anyway.

I made a necromancer mainly because a long time ago, I thought lifesteal was the best build concept ever. Didn't realize until much later that presearing had lied to me.
Sadly, she doesn't see much use these days. I'm the default BiP for my alliance...other than that, she's mostly a mule.

Diablo 2.
I was one of the first players to use a pure Bone build (pre 1.08-1.10)
As well as pure poison Dagger//Nova. When they buffed these skills I had a FIELD day.
Now I choose necromancer because I suits me. I tend to have a much blacker sense of humor and style. I also choose necromancer for nostalgia.

It's a class that can actually PvE very well, and minions just plow through crap. Is fun.

They have some nice armor and I like to steal health from foes and I like to piss off cspacebarzomg1+2+3 players that attack through 3 different anti-melee hexes in PvP.

So many fun skillsets to experiment with. Even outside or inside the usual SS MM Etc. It is the most useful/versitile class in the game.
Only thing I don't like is Soul Reaping and the fact that Necros only have around 6 skills for it total. However it still is the reason to play the class.

I like it because it is GW in super easy mode in pve (soul reaping, minion bombing, SS), and super lame mode in pvp.

1. SR is insane!
2. Raising hell. (Although I hadn't MM-ed in ages!)
3. Compared to the mesmer - it has shutdown that actually works in PvE!
4. Curses, Curses, Curses!
